How did you get roundtrip tickets from Chicago to Tampa for only $77?
My Guide to Cheap Airline Tickets
Nearly every time someone is asking me about travel advice, they ask how we get the best flight deals. Within a couple minutes, I can usually get a cheaper flight than they got looking all night the night before. After years and years of refining the ‘how-to’ of finding cheap flights, we are able to get the best flight costs all over the globe. I’ve put together a quick list of how to use my favorite app Skyscanner.com.
Skyscanner is a website/App that compares all airlines to get you the best deal and/or a list of available flights to get you where you need to go. We have used this site for years and always get great results. From this website you are able to compare thousands of flights to get you exactly what you want. Below is how I would use it on a trip to trip basis:
Download the Skyscanner app : It is free and it is awesome. Do yourself a favor and download it.
Other options on the app: You can obviously look up flights but this website also will compare hotels and car rentals as well.
Be flexible : When you are planning your trip, be flexible with your dates. Unless you have a specific date/time that you have to be somewhere, this will give you the best results on purchasing a flight.
Do you have a specific place? : If so, click on the ‘Flights’ tab and it will bring you to the search key. From there, put your local airport and a destination. From there, you can search ‘whole month’ and it will give you prices per day for flights. You can click on the flights that suite your budget and compare leaving/arriving a few days apart. This is a good way to save and give you an idea how day-to-day flights can fluctuate.
Are you looking for a trip anywhere? : My absolute favorite - ‘Explore everywhere’ on the main home page. This will give you prices anywhere in the world and multiple dates. Click this option on the home screen and type in your local airport. If you have a specific time (let’s say the whole month of May, for example) you can search per those parameters and compare prices for all flights. You can scroll through the list which usually starts with domestic flights but quickly gives you options for Canada, Caribbean, and Central America. It then starts getting into cheap European flights and beyond. This is the best to check on new locations that you’ve always wanted to visit.
Once you choose a location, pick a provider : This a where it gets a little strategic. With Skyscanner, they will have 3rd party providers that offer the cheap flights. We have bought plenty of fares from these providers and never had an issue. We usually try to book directly through the airline if possible, but it’s not required. Also, you can always find cheap flights on Skyscanner then look up the exact flights on that specific airline so you’re not dealing with a 3rd party.
This is always my quick price comparison : Even if you don’t use this site, it is a good tool to compare prices. I’ve had so many people that tried to buy flights without anything to compare it to. With a quick search you can look at how much other airlines are with a flight window of a day or two and up to an entire month.
Try to use this website to get a little better deal for your flights. I’ve been using this site for years and it allows us to travel more frequently and to stretch our budget much further! Enjoy searching!
