Top 5 Toys for Easy Entertaining on a plane

Updated: Jan 25, 2023

We try to be minimalistic with what we travel with. However, traveling with 2 kids 16 months apart, we know they need entertainment if we are going to not only survive but thrive on the plane (for our sakes and every other passenger on board). So here is out top 5 toys we bring for 1 and 3 year old boys.

1. First, a tablet. We only allow our kids to watch their tablets when we travel and on special occasions, so they are very excited when they see them come out. We have this one and swear by it for little ones who drop it and spill on it frequently. We actually now have two, one for each kid! Also, included the link to the headphones that my kids use (that also will double up as a toy because they are durable). They are also comfy as I've found myself using them when I can't get to my headphones and I have a sleeping baby next on me.

2. Window clings. We love these to stick on the airplane windows or even the tray for lots of entertainment. We have the following ones and the boys love the different ones. We always buy new ones for each trip we go on so they are excited to see which ones they get to play with.

3. Pop-its or some sort of fidget toy. We throw a couple of these small toys in our bag for easy entertainment to keep idle hands busy. Sometimes all you need is a quick easy distraction.

4. Construction Trucks. These were lifesavers one time when we had a delay and were stuck in the airport for 6 extra hours. My kids found a flower bed of rocks and literally played for hours with these trucks and the rocks. What I thought was a rough day of travel, my 2 year old corrected me and told me it was a great day because he got to play with trucks and watch airplanes all day.

5. Water Wow Books for little ones and coloring books for bigger kids. Both my kids love the Water Wow Books by Melissa and Doug. No mess and I have literally poured water from my airplane glass into the pens for easy set up. They have different ones and clean when they dry so we bought the set and switch up on the different trips we go on so they are fresh! My 3 year old is just starting to get into coloring so we bought him an airplane coloring book that he loved that he could color the airplane while on an airplane, but get whatever it is that your child is into in the moment (or at least the moment when you are packing).

Send me ideas of what your child's favorite airplane toys are!!
